Patiently Waiting…
My 2019 album “Patience” is a combination of 2 projects I was working on over the past few years. Cez and I been working together since 2017. He’s my “Mr. Miyagi” for lack of better terms. Being such a creative, I’ve always been excited to create and release music. He had me slow down, giving me the time to learn the business as well as grow as an artist. Between the years of 2016-2019, I’ve written and created about 4 different projects (excluding Patience). Given how naïve I was to the business and how much more I had to grow as an artist, we never felt like it was time.
Fast forward to Dec 2018. I had a 10 hour session with Dunny, Mu and Cez. That session is where I recorded most of the album. Also, that’s the same session “Fuck You Freestyle” and “High Grade” were recorded. After seeing how I conducted myself and hearing the music, it was finally time to start releasing music again. Cez, Mu and I sat down and picked out the songs that would best exemplify my growth as both an artist and a person. We picked 8 songs. 2 songs didn’t make it due to one not fitting the soundscape of the album and the other beat was already sold.
The 6 songs remaining just so happen to come from 2 separate projects I was working on, “Coffee Days” (B.A.R.F., Can’t Cry & Patience) and “Self Care” (Solo Dolo, On My Own & Forgive Me). B.A.R.F. was originally called Coffee Monster. Solo Dolo and On My Own were originally one track but then I separated it after adding 777 Shizz. Forgive Me had 3 verses but we ended cutting one out to make the song more cohesive and less drug out. We threw around different album titles for weeks before "Patience” stuck. The music was a perfect blend of stories and feelings that were a result of either having patience, or lacking it. The idea was great but something was missing…
Aug 2019 is when I wrote “Been Waiting”. I felt- no, I knew that it was the perfect outro for what the album was about. After adding the song, the project felt more like a complete thought. All it needed was something to help tie the songs and themes together, that’s when I had the idea to have quotes that related to the content. Munira had the perfect voice and was my immediate go to. After recording her parts, the team and I came up with the release date and the rest was history.
What was your favourite song/quote from the album ? Anything else you would like to know about Patience ? Feel free to leave a comment. “Patience” is currently available everywhere you stream & buy music. Have a great day… or night.
